Reduction, clarity and precision as a model for timeless building culture
Clear design principles and precise details shape the new quarter “Villengarten”, which has arisen in a peaceful location halfway up a hill, near the town centre, in the Stuttgart suburb of Relenberg. Seven elegant town villas, each with individually placed loggias and staggerings were developed for this location and carefully incorporated into a continuous garden. The high-quality design of properties, façades and green space is continued in the interior rooms of “Villengarten”. Matching this, the aim with the bathrooms is to create peaceful and aesthetic spaces that are also thought through, down to the smallest detail. Here, builders and planners trusted in the quality of the manufacturer Dallmer. In the level-access showers of the new quarter, the premium shower channel CeraWall Select, made from solid stainless steel, ensures elegant drainage.
The renowned architectural firm Kuehn Malvezzi is responsible for the draft of the freestanding city villas. “The highest quality follows a very simple principle: there are no small matters. Every detail contributes to the particular atmosphere of the villa garden. Therefore, as much value is placed on the furnishings of the interior rooms as on the garden design or the perfectly formed cubage”, explains architect Johannes Kuehn about the design approach to the project. The materials and products used reflect the high standards. They were selected and combined carefully, to continue the puristic design of the architecture into the living space. “It is about the quality of the whole thing and therefore also about sustainability. With the quarter we wanted to create something that is good in the long term. And we achieved that: for the residents, through an attractive living environment, beautiful apartments including the route to them through the staircase with a skylight and curved flight of stairs. And also the general public is pleased with the quality of the architecture”, as Johannes Kuehn continues to explain.
Perfectly matched: aesthetics, form, function
In the stylish houses of the Villengarten, 115 apartments are being created with two to five rooms and apartment sizes of about 60 to more than 250 m². The bathrooms, which radiate peace and aim to create a discreet atmosphere, are also of different sizes. The walls have been tiled to room height; walls and floors have intentionally been furnished with the same tile colours. Also, in Villengarten, corner protection rails have not been used and instead the tiles have been cut as solid material and toothed across the corner, as in brickwork. In the matter of drainage of the level-access showers, the architects’ choice was for the premium shower channel CeraWall Select, made from solid stainless steel, by Dallmer, because this combines the aesthetics of linear drainage directly on the wall with the safety and functionality of proven drainage technology. On the one hand, the shower channel captivates through its elegant look, which integrates into the overall bathroom concept in a particularly aesthetic way. However, it is also extremely functional. Specifically because the shower areas vary in all bathrooms, it was important to install a shower channel that can be easily adapted and installed. At the same time, the channel should be robust and durable. And don’t forget: it is imperative to maintain the noise protection from the apartments below. CeraWall Select has met all these criteria with flying colours. After the final sampling including alternative products, the unanimous choice was for CeraWall Select.
Visible harmony in the bathroom
“Through its puristic design, the CeraWall shower channel that is used harmonises optimally with tiles and natural stone as well. It fits easily into the architecture as well as the personal furnishings of the bathroom”, according to Michael Jäger, the responsible sales representative at Dallmer, who supported and assisted all participants right from the start of the project. “Therefore, it is the ideal choice for a property such as Villengarten, in which aesthetics, and harmony with the architecture, are in the foreground.
CeraWall Select is installed at the transition between wall and floor and leads the water centrally into the DallFlex drain body. Its length can be precisely adapted within the range of 800 to 2,000 millimetres. Because it is attached directly to the wall, no chiselling work or front-of-wall installations are necessary. The edging of the shower channel provides a safety advantage, because the joint is above the wet area. Particularly practical for the end customers and for sustainably beautiful aesthetics: due to the removable trap insert and freely accessible stainless steel surfaces, the drainage system can be cleaned easily and quickly.
Planned exactly to the millimetre
All Dallmer shower channels are produced with the greatest care in Arnsberg and undergo an individual quality check before delivery. Because account must be taken of the wishes and interests of the future residents in the detailed planning and production of the bathrooms in Villengarten, the shower channels also had to be flexibly adapted to the relevant level-access showers and floor coverings that were selected. The products installed here come with lengths between 900 and 1,800 millimetres and thus guarantee optimal drainage. “The shower channels can be shortened precisely to the millimetre on location. Because of this, they can be installed in the shower area in a way that is level with recesses,” says Michael Jäger. Through this, builders and architects alike profit from the reliable Dallmer quality. “During completion, no difficulties arose; this meant that the work of the various tradespeople ran smoothly,” emphasises Gerhard Fuchs, Project Manager at the developer Epple GmbH. In addition, the experts from Dallmer provided advice and assistance throughout the whole construction phase: “We received attentive and helpful service. They understood our way of thinking very well. The cooperation went without any problems, from the design to the technical drawings,” explains Daria Grouhi, Director at Kuehn Malvezzi.
The construction works for the modern new residential quarter began in January 2015 and were completed on schedule in spring 2017.
