Once unfairly struggling with a tarnished image, the large housing estate "Märkisches Viertel" in Berlin-Reinickendorf has now long been considered an exemplary solution worldwide for the creation of generous living space in a small area. As the biggest portfolio holder in the Märkisches Viertel, the GESOBAU AG housing association implemented comprehensive modernisation measures between 2008 and 2015 and converted the area into a low-energy housing development. Coupled with the installation of modern sanitation facilities, this has brought about a considerable improvement in comfort and quality of life in 13,500 apartments. The entire plumbing pipework was replaced and for the washing unit connections, the design engineers opted, among other things, for the wall-mounted 406 siphon, the classic combination of water inflow and outflow in a single convenient fitting.
